Common Surnames: Rice and Williams.
Common Locations: Louisa, and Hanover Counties, in Virginia, Caswell County, in North Carolina.
I am seeking information on John SR. Rice, and his Son Thomas (Cabin Branch-CB) Rice, and information on their parents, and their parent’s families.
There seems to be a lot of confusion about who the father of Thomas (CB) Rice was. Most link Thomas (CB) Rice with a father named Thomas Rice, or John Sr. Rice, born at Louisa County, Virginia, who married Lettisha ?, and died 1796 at Caswell, North Carolina, leaving a personal will naming his children and wife. Thomas (CB) Rice was born about 1730, at Hanover County, Virginia, and died 1804, at Caswell, North Carolina, leaving a will naming his children, but not his wife. The notion is suspect, but CB Thomas Rice may have married a Marcy ?,
Based on what I have seen on the web, there is a great deal of mixing of this Thomas (CB) Rice with the other Thomas Rice who died at Caswell, North Carolina in 1800, also, leaving a will naming his wife and children, which before I forget, were all named with names that started with a Z. On the web, both Thomas Rice’s share equally in the confusion of the listing of their fathers, one record will either list Thomas’ father as John SR. Rice, while another record will list their father’s as Thomas Rice.
I realize that at this time there was at least two, John Rice’s, and as many as three Thomas Rice’s living in Caswell County, North Carolina at the very same time. This very same confusion lends itself to John Rice, “Old John Rice,” or John SR. Rice. Again, one record will list John SR. Rice’s father as John Rice, while another record will list his father as Thomas Rice. There is such a great deal of mixing and matching, how is anyone supposed to understand how it all works out? No two records list the information in quite the same order, and I have seen so little source information in any file. Is there anyone that has logical information on how this all separates out, with the Thomas Rice’s and the John Rice’s, that maybe has a little supporting documentation, or source information? If so, I would really appreciate your assistance in getting this mystifying jumble sorted out.
