I was told that ALL of the "old" wills are at the Archives in Raleigh, NC. On a recent trip to the Archives I learned that the wills are indexed by name, but are actually filed by county name in more or less alphabetical order. I was looking for a 1853 Macon Co., AL will of David Thomas. There was a note that his will was also filed in NC and when we got to the Archives in NC I learned that the AL will had also been filed in Caswell Co., NC and I now have a copy of that will.

So, go up on the web and get the site for the NC archives and see if they can tell you if they have a copy of that will. If so that is the place to start. I don't remember how much it cost per page, but to me it was priceless.
