I recently learned that Cabarrus native son, Thomas Dove Keisur/Keiser/Kiser will be memorialized TODAY in the state of Oregon. T. D and wife Mary Gurley Keiser moved to Arkansas before heading to Oregon. T. D Keiser was one of the leaders of the very first wagon train crussing the Oregon trail in 1843. He is recognized as the first purchaser of land in the Oregon Territory. Once resiing in Oregon, a militia was formed known as the Oregon Rangers. Thomas Dove Keisur was the first captain of this unit. Our United States National Guard is rooted in the Oregon Rangers.
