A sizeable part of the Petray family moved to Pope County Arkanas around 1840 following a court case betwixt the family. Interesting, much of the legal depositions taken were spoken in German! Anyhow, you will find kin in AR and also later in Sonoma County CA. One of the Petray men was was a sheriff in San Fransico and was killed during a Chinese gang war there. Prior to Cabarrus, you will find the family in Stoke County NC.
