I don't think so. John Cox received grant #517 issued in 1819 Cabarrus. The lands were on the waters of Bear Creek and chain carriers were John Barnhardt and John Cox. I think the land was listed as joining his own and William Waggoner or George Miller. Looking at grants issued around #517... 515, 518, 519 etc... George Miller, William Waggoner,John Barnhardt and others were all receiving land along the Long Branch of Bear Creek. One pice of land adjoined the Montgomery (now Stanly) cunty line. So this was all upstream maybe near present day Smith lake.
Given the date and the proximity to Jesse D.'s later lands, I just assumed they were related. Somewhere I think I have seen another record (maybe in a deed) making the link.
I agree with you in the location of Davidson and the ties to MUSE therein. Were not the MUSE and BIRKHEAD families from the end of Davidson near or in MOORE county? There is an awsome North Carolina supreme court case that links the families, carrying the line back to the 1710's via a birth record incuded in the court case.
