Bethpage Presbyterian Church

Below is the information I’ve gleaned about Bethpage Presbyterian church. It started in Enochville, Rowan County but moved 3 miles into Cabarrus County. Later they sold their site to Bethpage Methodist Church, which is still there.

Deed Book 16, page 157 (1 Klutz, see below)
19 May 1795. Hugh (h) McCrea to George Gibson, John Parks, Archibald Woodside, and Mitchel Flemming as trustees of the congregation of Bethpage [church] for 5 [pounds sterling], 10 acres on [Irish] Buffalo Crk adj Christopher Baker. The Meeting House and a spring were included. Wit: Robert Paterson, James Gibson. Proved by Paterson at Feb Court 1798. (1)

According to the website of Bethpage Presbyterian Church of Kannapolis, the above cited church was organized in the Fall of 1794, with the first minister Rev. John Carrigan. The early Elders were James Gibson, Mitchell Flemming (both named on the deed), as well as Oliver Harris. Early Deacons were John Still, Peter Rumple, Thomas Black, and Simeon Winecoff. In 1839 the church moved 3 miles into Cabarrus County. See

According to the website listed below says the church was sold to Bethpage Methodist Church. It also mentions the old cemetery and says that it is now obliterated. See “Bethpage Community and Church” at

My questions:
1.       Are there any church records still in existence and where are they?
2.       2. About that cemetery, has anyone surveyed it? I’m looking for George (d. ca. 1821) and Margaret (Locke) Gibson (d. before 1796).
3.       Do I have my facts right above, and is there more information about this community?

Many thanks for any help,
Carole
