Dr. Mortimer Delville JOHNSTON married Margaret "Maggie" Annabelle Alexander on July 21, 1842, at DAVIDSON COLLEGE. Her father was Daniel Alexander, who ran a boarding house near the campus. They had children, some who did not live very long and may be buried at Davidson. One son, Dan Alexander JOHNSTON, whose wife is not known by me, had a daughter, Irene. By one source, she is said to have married James E. Steere, Sr. Mrs. James E. STEERE furnished information on Daniel Alexander's family, which she said was taken from Daniel's Bible. I do not know who owned the Bible from which the information was taken. I recently found that a daughter of Irene Steere, Mary (Steere) Boyle, who is married to Mr. Albert Boyle, says that her mother and grandmother's family papers said that Irene was descended from Abraham. I show that one child of Irene and James E. Steere, Sr., was James E. Steere, Jr. This lady is apparently a dau., MARY STEERE. I do not know if these are TWO different Irene STEERES, or if they are both Irene (Johnston) Steere. There is a problem based on the article in the ENQUIRER-JOURNAL of 1959. A Mrs. James E. Steere furnished information for Daniel Alexander's family in at least one of the articles. I could care less whether my Irene Johnston married James E. Steere, or Mr. John Brown. I am only looking for this lady, Mary (Steere) Boyle, in hopes that she can give me the line from Abraham to Irene Steere, her mother. Even her parents and grandparents will do. And, this Irene's maiden name. In an effort to resolve this apparent pbm. with my family file. CAN ANYONE HELP ME TO FIND THIS LADY? A cousin of mine today lived for some time in Charlotte, NC, and was fortunate to meet his lady, whom she said was very nice and pleasant, who told her the same thing; i.e., Irene descended from Abraham and not Daniel. My cousin was Martha "Marti" HITT, who may have already been married to a GORMAN at the time. Thanks for any help. Mac Alexander of Cypress, TX.
