Glad I could pass that along, and thankful to you for your sharing the service records with me.
I am of the thinking like you and some others, that Isaac was not the son of Sampson Jr., yet I tend to believe he was the son of Sampson Sr., because the 1810 census indicates a son of the correct age. No others have been identified. I also believe Isaac may have moved in with Henry Davis (possibly a brother?) after their mother died (abt. 1810) and before Sampson Sr. remarried (abt 1815), hence the reason he doesn't appear in the 1820 census.
Sampson Sr. doesn't appear in the 1820 census, but Sampson Jr. appears the first time as HoH indicating Sampson Sr. may have either moved in with Ruth, his second wife or moved in with Henry (least likely). Then in 1830, both Sr. & Jr. are listed as HoH's.
Henry and Isaac are listed living near one another in the 1830 census.
