My maternal clan were Ballantines from Bladen County. I have been able to trace the family back to Alexander Ballantine, who was a Loyalist soldier (apparently for a short time) and then in the Continental Line for 84 months! He was on the 1784 Bladen County tax roll owning 200 hundred acres in Capt Johnson's District. Another record places him near White's Creek (which may be the same area). What I need to know is where did he come from? He was associated with all those Scots in Brown Marsh, even buried in the Brown Marsh Church burying grounds. Is there a source of information somewhere as to how they entered the area? Directly from Scotland, via Wilmington? From PA? I would appreciate any clue as to where to look. Thanks. John.
