Call the library in New Bern and ask for someone in their genealogy dept. My mom was from New Bern so I know a little about the area. James City is still a part of New Bern. Broad Creek refers to a part of the Neuse River. Craven County is divided by the Neuse River. As a kid we would drive over the bridge to Bayboro to get to "Granny's" cottage at Broad Creek. Check out: http://www.northcarolinahistory.org/encyclopedia/723/entry/.
" Today, James City remains an unincorporated town in Craven County. The James City Historical Society along with the A.M.E. Zion Church have created programs that conserve the black history of the area."
Hope this helps, Dianna
