Michael,
Your recounting of the capture of your great-great? grandfather in the Napoleonic Wars Forum was of great interest to my sisters and myself. You could also have been recounting the story of our own great-great grandfather Jean-Baptiste Bernardin as his story is much the same, although he stayed in Quebec, Canada rather than emigrating to the U.S. If you review the list of soldiers who made up the 'Régiment de Meurons', you will see his name listed.
I am curious to know where you got some of the details you've recounted? Most of our information comes to us from a series of books written by a retired history professor who researched Jean-Baptiste (Bernardin), and the remaining bits we've run across on the internet.
My sister saw something on the internet just this week about a book they were referring to that was suppose to be about this battle and the prisoners taken during it's course. She's since been unable to find the proper site again, so that's all the information I have on it at this time. I can be reached at: dbrown@telus.net
Sincerely
Diane Bernardin
