Henry, David and James COX were the only known children of FNU COX and Angelina (maiden name unknown). Henry COX, born between 1755 & 1774 (1790 SC Cen., if this is the same Henry) and died 24 Jul 1818 in Wilkinson Co., MS. He married Nancy CASON (dau. of Thomas CASON & Ann LEWIS). (Angelina MNU COX married 2nd Thomas CASON in MS). A Henry COX is listed on the 1790 SC Cen. in Edgefield Co., SC with 1 male (10-16), 1 male (26-45) and 1 female (18-26). Not certain if this is the same Hanry COX. On 22 Mar 1800 Thomas CASON, SR. (Nancy Cason's father) deeds land to Henry COX in Edgefield Co., SC. On the 25 Dec 1807 Henry COX sells his land to John Burress. Nancy COX relinquished her claim. This is probably when Henry and his brother, David COX, left for Wilkinson Co., MS. Henry COX is 1st seen in Wilkinson Co., MS on 11 Feb 1811 buying land. There are no known children of Henry and Nancy Cason COX. Little is known about James COX except that on 11 Apr 1820 he sold to his brother David COX his "proportionable part of the Estate of my deceased brother Henry COX." In this document James states that he is a resident of Edgefield Co., SC. The COX Family Bible (FB) lists a James COX dying 22 Jan 1826. Nothing else is known about James COX. David COX was born 10 Mar 1779 (FB) and died 18 Dec 1847 in Amite Co., MS. He married Fauniah Bryna (Brinay or Sabrina) GLANTON (dau. of Benjamin GLANTON & Margaret MURRAH of Edgefield Co., SC) on 4 Dec 1800 in SC (FB). The children of David COX and Fauniah Bryna GLANTON are: 1. Angelina Roach COX, b. 17 Feb 1802, d. 20 Aug 1802 (FB) 2. Margaret Murrah COX, b. 4 Aug 1803 (SC)m. Mitchel S. FAUST on 6 Jun 1818 in Amite Co., MS (FB) 3. Henry Carlton COX, b. 12 Feb 1805 in SC, d. 24 Jul 1878 in Amite Co., MS m. 1st Elizabeth Toler, m. 2nd Sarah Ann DUCK (FB) 4. James Alfred COX, b. 24 Jan 1807, d. 15 Feb 1808 (FB) 5. Nancy Cason COX, b. 29 Jul 1811 in MS, d. 12 Sep 1867, m. Alexander Scott CAUSEY on 16 Dec 1830 in MS (FB) 6. Juliann COX, b. 2 Apr 1815 in MS, m. Archibald CAIN, 7 Apr 1831 in MS (FB) 7. Lucinda COX (twin), b. 26 Jul 1819 in MS, d. 20 Aug 1820 in MS (FB) 8. Lucintha COX (twin), b. 26 Jul 1819 in MS d. 31 Aug 1854, m. Seaborn Tarrant CAUSEY on 26 Mar 1835 in MS (FB) I believe that Angelina's (mother of Henry, David and James COX) maiden name may have been ROACH. There has been speculation that it also may have been GLANTON or FAUST. However, I have never seen any proof. My belief that it may be ROACH is based on the name of David and Fauniah COX's 1st Child's name. I know that Fauniah GLANTON's mother's maiden name was MURRAH (2nd dau. of David and Fauniah COX). I also believe that the names CARLTON and ALFRED are also related to previous family members. I am trying hard to sort out all of the COX's of the 96th District of SC before 1820 so as to eliminate those who are positively not related to my COXs. Bartley COX (son of John COX and Mary COLEMAN of VA went to Edgefield Co., SC and the to GA, just across the Savannah River. He married 2nd to Susannah CARLETON (dau of Thomas CARLETON and SARAH SWEPSON of VA). John ROACH of Charlotte Co., VA had a dau. who married a SWEPSON and a dau. who married an ELAM (also connected to the COXs). I have also found a THOMAS ROACH & Angelina CARY married in Sussex Co., DE. From Culpepper Co., VA I found a Jane ROACH m. JESSE COX (they went to SC, do not know what part). Jane married 2nd Charles Black. Children of Jesse and Jane ROACH COX wer Sophia m. FNU BROWN and Alfred W. m. Henrietta Scott. There also was a David ROACH listed in the will of Ambrose Madison in 1732. David ROACH m. FNU MADISON. The MADISONs were also connected to the COXs of VA. If anyone has a clue to who the parents of HENRY, DAVID, and JAMES COX were, please contact me through this forum or email me at missya14@cox.net. Also would like to find out more information about James COX. Thank you! |
