Clinton Rev. Daniel Walker, Sr., 89, died April 25, 2004, at Central Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. Services were Thursday at Wilson Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Flora with burial in the church cemetery. The Reverend Daniel Walker, Sr., a dedicated man of God, pastor, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather, was born to the late Rev. Palmer Walker and Martha Day Walker on July 22, 1914 in Flora. He was the seventh of 12 children. He confessed Christ and was baptized September 9, 1928 at Wilson Grove M.B. Church under the leadership of Rev. B.L. Jerrel. He later joined Hall Chapel Free Will Baptist Church under the pastorage of Rev. Silas Smith. He met and fell in love with a loving, kind, and virtuous woman, Delora Henrene Thompson who preceded him in death. To this union, 13 children were born. As a godly leader for over 57 years, Rev. Walker was called to pastor the Zion Hill F.W.B. Church in 1953, St. Mary #2 F.W.B. Church in 1954, Tangipahoa F.W.B. Church in 1963 and the Midway F.W.B. Church in 1967. On Sunday, April 25, 2004, a Treasure from a Treasure went back to a Treasure in Glory. Among many who will remember his legacy and cherish his memories are: three daughters, Cornelia Leggett of Clinton, Evangelist Pearlie (Rev. George) Vaughn of Canton, Josie Williams of Jackson; six sons, Robert (Annie) Walker, Gregory (Marilynn Walker, Michael Walker, all of Jackson, Daniel, Jr. (Mary) Walker of Clinton, James Frank (Deborah) Walker, and Larry (Freda) Walker both of Oklahoma City, Okla.; three sisters-in-law; 42 grandchildren; 80 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren. |
