Amory - Burma Parham Peeler, 93, died Thursday, June 14, 2012, at Gilmore Memorial Regional Medical Center. She was born Nov. 14, 1918, in Amory to Aud Carson and Lola Hester Parham. She was a graduate of Amory High School, Class of 1935, where she played basketball and was a member of the County Champions team. Retiring in 1980, she was the office manager for Guardian Life Insurance Company in Memphis. A woman of deep faith, she was a member of First United Methodist Church where she had served on several church boards. A beautiful, caring, and loving lady, her life was guided by her faith and family. She wrote poems that printed in the American Poetry Anthology and constructed crossword puzzles that were also published. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was passionate about helping other people and enjoyed doing embroidery work.
Services were June 18 at First United Methodist Church with burial in Masonic Cemetery. E.E. Pickle Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Survivors included her daughters, Geri Mann of Smyrna, Tenn., and Jean Young (Lawrence) of Dallas, Texas; grandchildren, Matthew Mann of Smyrna, Jeff Young of Palm Beach, Fla., and John Young of Dallas; great-grandchildren, Jennifer Slaughter and Mason Young; great-great-grandson, Jackson Slaughter; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Peeler; son-in-law, Ed Mann; granddaughter, Audrey Mann; and a brother, Aud Parham.
