Services for John Russel Sloan, 42, were held May 12, 1973 at Southside Baptist Church with burial in Oddfellows Rest Cemetery with Lann Memorial Funeral Home in charge. Mr. Sloan, who was a native of Itawamba County, died May 10, 1973 in the Aberdeen-Monroe County Hospital. He was a graduate of Fulton High School and had lived in Aberdeen for 25 years. He was a Colonel during Governor Paul B. Johnson's administration and had been employed by Walker Manufacturing Company for 13 years. He was a member of Southside Baptist Church, where he was a Deacon and member of the Adult Choir. He was also a Mason.
Survivors included his wife, Mrs. Doris Lancaster Sloan; two sons, Russell Allen and Ronald Lancaster Sloan, both of Aberdeen; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. A. Sloan, Sr., of Aberdeen; two brothers, L. A. Sloan, Jr., of Vidalia, La., and Senter Sloan of Mantachie; five sisters, Mrs. Ruth Williams of Memphis, Mrs. Maecille Falcon of Berwick, La., Mrs. Antionette Allen and Mrs. Ann Luna, both of Aberdeen and Mrs. Eddie Ray Sloan of Meridian.
