Are there any Whittington experts around? I am still trying to track down Eli Whittington of Amite County.

Eli was born about 1822 in Mississippi, and recorded his father's birthplace as Georgia and his mother's as South Carolina. Eli married Eveline Eady in Amite County in 1854, who seems to be the daughter of John Eady and Charity Anders. An 1859 record from the General Land Office records Eli owning 37 acres in Wilkinson County, not far from land owned by Charity Anders Eady. The Anders family intermarried extensively with the Whittingtons in Amite county.

Eli appears in the 1870 and 1880 censuses in Liberty town, Amite County. His children were John N. Whittington, b. 1857; M J Whittington, b. 1860 (daughter); M. E. Whittington (daughter) b. 1865; and James Whittington b. 1868. John and the older daughter (recorded as "baby") show up with their mother (but without Eli) in the 1860 census in the household of Leonard Byrd, the brother-in-law of Eveline Eady. I believe daughter M J to be Mary Jane/Janice Whittington who married James A. Shirey; I have not been able to trace any of the other children.

My working hypothesis is that Eli is a grandson or great-grandson of Cornelius Whittington, but I have not been able to find a place for him in any of the established lines. Does anyone have some information that could shed some light here?
