My DUCK line has three mystery SMITH's. I will try to explain as clearly as possible.
John Smith first shows up with the James Duck
and Mary Peoples Duck family on 1850 census age 68 with an Elizabeth Pies age 70 (we believe this is Elizabeth Peoples>Mary's mother). On 1860 census next door to DUCK's is a James Smith age 70 and Mary Smith age 70 (listed as paupers) along with Betsey Peoples age 83(non-proofed version has her as Betsey Reopter). Next comes the NEYLAND family related to the DUCK's by marriage. Then two
more families I haven't found a connection to the DUCK's. Next group begins with Leo Smith and Elizabeth Smith family. Then a
the family group JOHNS. John SMITH is here
amongst these SMITHS and JOHNS. Not far from
the DUCK family. Finally, family note of my grandfather has John Smith death as 30 AUG, 1868. In this same note James Duck wife is mentioned as "Polly Smith". However, marriage record has her as Mary Peoples. Another researchers family bible also has John Smith with same death date and on same
page date Elizabeth Peoples died 9 NOV, 1862.
My note also lists same date for Elizabeth Peoples death. All of the above show SC as
birthplace. With the exception of myself and the other DUCK researcher no one had any information on John Smith except seeing him in census records. Hope this wasn't too confusing. If you bump into anything on John,Mary,James SMITH please let me know. Oh, all of these people were in the "Ducktown" area about 7 miles Southwest of Liberty, MS.
