Mathias Morton signed the oath of allegiance on November 17, 1778 in New Castle County Delaware in front of James Black. Found in "Delaware Signers of the Oath of Allegiance" by Eleanor B Cooch page 65. His marriage to Rebecca Evars (or Evans) from "Records of Holy Trinity (Old Swedes) Church" page 393 found on World Vital Records 05 Jun 2008 May 18, 1785 his will written June 6, 1785 his will probated per statement of Ephraim Stoop and Patience Morton, Executors were his son Andrew Morton and Henry Colesbury January 16, 1789 his personal estate appraised February 20, 1796 payments to various people for expenses such as funeral, etc and to Elizabeth Garretson, daughter of the testator and David Morton for his legacy and note that Ebenezer owed the estate for two bonds (one for 80 pounds on Feb 18, 1777 and one for 50 pounds) March 3, 1800 Orphan's Court accepted corrections by administrator Andrew Morton, February 4, 1808 paid to Robert Maxwell 44 pounds + interest of 6 pounds for rent due by George Wirt since deceased and insolvent, March 20, 1808 estate paid to Adam Morton 133 pounds; Ebenezer Morton 3 shillings; Andrew Morton 3 shillings; REBECCA Wirt 3 shillings, John Morton 3 shillings, Morton Morton 3 shillings, Henry Morton 133 pounds, [George Morton, Dennis McGuire (Ann), Isaac McCalley (Sarah), Mathias Morton, Christiana Morton each 194 pounds (each 1/5 share)] and widow Abigail 688 pounds, The five children that received 1/5 share were under age 21 at the time of his death in 1785. May 20, 1808 estate was finalized. I am making a lot of assumptions about the mothers of and order of his children's births. It seems he listed his children in approximate birth order in his will. Perhaps others will fill me in on any corrections - with documentation of course. His daughter Christiana and son Ebenezer died before the estate was settled. |
