Alexander Mitchell (Henry M. Meloney's grandfather) was with Baldwins -- apparently had a row with old man Baldwin at one point early on in his career but stood his ground and persuaded Baldwin to let him build a prototype loco, the Consolidation. The first engine produced, ca. 1863, ran like a sewing machine, and Consolidation locos were still being used in Brazil in the 1950's, using the same design!
