Wowee.. you have a great story to add to your repertoire! I'm not so sure about the verdict tho. Did everyone grab their gun when arising?! Wonder how the family treated John after this incident.
I'm delighted my theory of the dynamics of this family panned out. Hopefully you will inform your fellow researchers.....Robert BRADLEY, is the f/o your Isaac.

Margaret BRADLEY filed for CW pension 9-13-1890 on Robt's enlistment; Co G 33rd MO Inf. 1890 Vet's Schedule, Catawabe, Caldwell Co MO, states "husband murdered yrs ago". Wonder why she waited so long to apply. I don't know if granted, but this file should contain great info. Order from the NARA
Robert F BRADLEY ae 21 registered for CW Draft 1863, Caldwell Co, married; previous military service...33rd MO

Looks like Robt was considerably younger than Margaret, and only abt 8yrs old than John MARTIN.

1860 Lydia has son J S 4, which fits John. She also has son Columbus b c 1853
James BRADLEY d 1860-70, as Lydia is with sons John & Columbus 1870 Ralls Co.

This looks like it fits....

Her name is L L BRADLEY on several census.
