I am seeking any information about Hawkins men who may were from Burke County, North Carolina. Brothers are: Austin (who remained in NC), John, William, James, Richard and Joseph (who went from NC to TN). I found the names of John, James and Richard on Ste. Genevieve militia records ca. 1799-1803. John attained the rank of Captain or possibly Colonel. He settled in Potosi, Washington County, Mo. I am trying to figure out how these men came to be part of the Ste Genevieve militia (Ste. Gen in Missouri is the oldest town in Mo. settled in the 1600's by the French. It was the major port north of New Orleans on the Mississippi) Someone speculated to me that this militia was part of George Rogers Clark militia and I would like to verify this info. James Hawkins may have been a captain in the War of 1812 out of Washington County, Mo.
