Dialthia F Carter (b.9-15-1872/d.11-22-1937)/Andrew Johnson Carter (b.5-22-1861/d.7-13-1913) are my great-great-grandparents through daughter Grace Edith Carter Gideon. We have information from my grandmother (Grace's daughter) that Andrew's mother, Dialthia F Carter (b. 3-1820/ d. 9-13-1906) married H.R. Carter (d. 1-22-1891).

My grandmother says Dialthia's mother was Elizabeth Tillman. I have no more information on her, but it's interesting that you say Dialthia may come from Cherokee heritage. Our family has passed down the story that our relative Deborah Tillman (mother? of Elizabeth Tillman) was kidnapped by the Indians as a baby. When a Catholic priest shared the gospel with the Indian tribe, the chief became a Christian and returned a teenage Deborah to her family. We do not know where this happened or the name of the Indian tribe.

Have you uncovered anymore information about the Tillmans?

Also - you may already know this by now, but the Carter/Wilhite cemetery is in Busiek State Park off of Hwy. 65 southbound between Springfield, MO and Branson, MO. The State Park brochure gives a bit of background on the cemetery, which been preserved because it's located in the state park. There is also a schoolhouse/church on the park grounds that the Carters attended. Andrew/Minnie's daughter, Grace, played the organ at the church as a girl.
