One of the very first white families to move on a permanent basis to future Christian County was the clan led by Benjamin Chapman of Tennessee. With his large family and his second wife Mary Cavitt Smart, Mr. Chapman chose some of the best river bottom land in the county at Ozark. His first cabin would have been consturcted of logs between 1829-1830 near the current ste of the Chapman Cemebery on Finley Creek.
