James Newton Roberts b.abt 1842 in Taney County, Missouri is the son of Caswell Roberts b.1817 in Hamilton or Warren County, Tennessee, and Rachel Burkhart b.1817 in Tennessee.

James Newton Roberts married Mary Elizabeth Fergus in 1873 in Taney County, Missouri.

You already know the children born to them.

I have never been able to confirm or rule out the theory that James Newton Roberts was married before his uninon to Mary Fergus to a woman named Hannah Shipman. James was just over 30 and Mary already 25 when they married, so it is possible to believe....but not proven from what I know.

James Newton Roberts father Caswell, was the son of Jacob Roberts b. 1788 in Tennessee and Elizabeth Groves b. 1788 in Tennessee. Jacob and his children made the six week journey to Missouri in about 1840. Elizabeth Groves died before they left for Missouri.

Jacob Roberts remarried at least 2 times, but to my knowlege only had children with Elizabeth Groves. One marriage was to Dolly Burkhart in 1866 (who is also the mother of his son, Caswell's wife Rachel Burkhart) and also the mother of two more of his children's spouses as well. His last marriage was to Matilda Raines, a widow with two children (Isacc and Dangerfield Raines) still living at home who Jacob Roberts raised with her.

I can go back further on both sides if you would like, but will wait to see if you reply before spelling it all out now. Hope this helps.
