But I did find a newspaper report from when Ingrid Maria Andersdotter died in Alexandria in 1883.
The Alexandria Post, Alexandria, Douglas County, Minnesota
Friday, September 14, 1883, page 4, col. 4.
Mrs. Mary A. Peterson, wife of Gustaf Peterson of the Alexandria City Hotel, on the 11th inst. Funeral service by Rev. G. Oftedal on the 12th.
The man who posted this, Joel Watne, is a volunteer who went through all the old newspapers in Douglas county, and posted a lot of these types of articles. He is not related.
I'm not sure if it really means that Gustaf owned the Alexandria City Hotel, or if he lived or worked there.
So they had "Americanized" her name?
