1. A child of a man named Johannes should be Johannesson in Sweden or Johannesen in Norway. Read this interesting and informative article about Swedish naming traditions written by a Sweden named Ingela Martenius.
2. Dalsland is a province in Sweden. My blog has a couple of maps of parishes in Sweden. (Records were kept in the parish and not in the town or village or farm.) Martin has found people with the right names leaving from Laxarby in one of his replies to you. (He used the Emihamn database of the cd "Emigranten Populär" which shows departures from Swedish ports.
"This seems to be the only credible lead for finding a domicile in Sweden, how might I check to find a parish?"
I have already told you the way many of us have found a parish in Sweden for our ancestors. Here is that link again.
By the way, Genforum is extremely slow, or perhaps I should write slooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooow. It often takes many minutes or even longer than that to have a message post. I often post, go away to do something else, such as have a snack or meal, and then come back to see the post still not posted. However, it does eventually post. If you keep pressing the post message button, you will end up with many posts as you did here. We have all done that, so don't feel badly about it, but just understand that Genforum is unbelievably slow.
