I am historian for Albion, (Calhoun Co)Michigan. One of our early pioneer family was the Hannahs family, who started our first bank and George Hannahs (1823-1906)was our first village president in 1855. In 1864 George moved to South Haven where in subsequent years he became a leading citizen, had a lumber and ship business, built the Kalamazoo & South Haven railroad in 1872, first village president 1869, Michigan Legislature, etc. He retired to San Diego, California in 1889 but returned to South Haven to visit several times. There was a ship/boat there in South Haven named the Marvin Hannahs (it would be interesting to know what happened to that ship) named after George's father who is buried here in Albion. George died July 27 1906 in California. Is he buried there in South Haven? Are any of his family members buried there?
George had two sons, Marvin and George Hannahs. Did they stay in South Haven? Has anyone done a genealogical descendants chart or are there any descsendants in the area today? I have a nice photograph of George in my book, "Albion's Banks and Bankers" and a biography of George's life in Albion.
