An obituary for Jane (Reames) Elwell was carried in the Decatur Republican newspaper on 29 Jun 1939 and it reads: “Mrs. Elwell Dies at 90 Melvina Jane Reams Elwell died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Nina Parish of Cassopolis, June 20, at the age of 90 years and 30 days. She was born at Rolling Prairie Station, Indiana, May 21, 1849, the second child of Silas Z. and Polly Phillips Reames. She came to Cass county with her parents at the age of 4 years. She married to Henry McKebby of Cass County September 23, 1867. To this union were born four children. He preceded her in death, July 3, 1882. She married to Burton Elwell July 4, 1884. To this union were born 4 children. He preceded her in death, July 12, 1892. She leaves four children-Mrs. Minerva Cross, Allegan, Mich.; George McKebby and Claude Elwell, of Kalamazoo; Mrs. Nina Parish, Cassopolis; two brothers-Frances Reames, Shelby, Mich.,; Greg Reames, Grawn, Mich.; and one sister, Mary Hatfield, Kalamazoo, Mich.; 23 grandchildren, 45 great grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.”
