The South Bend Tribune carried an obituary for Claude Elwell on 20 Apr 1968 and it reads: “Elwell-Services for Claude D. Elwell, 82, of North Liberty, formerly of Decatur, Mich., who died in Memorial Hospital Thursday, will be in the Newell Funeral Home, Decatur, at 2:30 p.m. Sunday. Rev. Charles Carson, pastor of the Decatur Bible Church will officiate. Burial will be in Harrison Cemetery. He was born Aug. 1, 1885, in Vandalia. He was a retired New York Central employee. He is survived by two sons, Leonard, of North Liberty and Paul, of Lansing; two daughters, Mrs. Louise Andrews and Mrs. Loretta Ridie, both of Lansing; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Nina Parish of Decatur.”
