Thank you so much for your help. James, we think, may actually have been born in NJ... but Samuel you showed was definitely his brother! I shall have to see if Edward is one of those 'sleeper' types we just didn't know about! James and Samuel's father; conveniently Samuel was still alive at that time, but I don't believe he was in the same county. That Samuel was b. abt. 1777 and his wife Elizabeth, was b. about 1787. The older Samuel died in 1867 in Galesburg, MI. Elizabeth lived on until 7 Oct, 1875 and the 1870 Census has her living with her daughter, Jane Beckwith and son-in-law Berthier Beckwith, in Kalamazoo Co.
