I have recently subbmitted my samples for 67 marker yDNA testing with Family Tree DNA and expect to get the results soon. Having one person tested is of no value unless other Merry males do it as well. The challenge is issued! My Merry family comes from the Eynsham-Woodstock area, north-west of Oxford from at least the mid 1600s, but I think may have crossed the border from Gloucestershire about 100 years earlier. Early spellings included Myrrye and Merrye.
