The book does indeed confirm his existence though hardly any personal information is given about him. What follows is his known ancestry mainly, but not entirely, gleaned from the book.
Robert Mell b. ca 1872, his parents were Brown Mell (also called Thomas) and Sarah Ann Willoughby (m ca 1856).Brown Mell was born around 1835 in Howden, ERY and laboured in farming and then a chemical works. His parents were John Mell and Isabella Harrison who married in Howden on 3 August 1823. John Mell was baptised in Eastrington PC, ERY on 19 Feb 1798, being born in Hive nearby. His parents were Thomas Mell and Anne (possibly Howden, in which case they married at South Cave, ERY on 3 May 1790 - treat this with caution). Thomas Mell was born in Sandholme, Eastrington in 1763 and his parents were Thomas Mell and Ann Parker who married on 14 November 1751 in Eastrington PC. Thomas was baptised in Eastrington PC on 26 March 1728, the son of John and that is as far back as the detailed information goes. I can flesh out family groups a bit if you are interested, in which case give me an email.
