Dear Karen,

I recently came across your posting on GenForum about Edwin A. Wood of Anson, Maine, and his marriage to Georgie Gahan also of Anson, Maine. I Googled the name of Edwin A. Wood because among letters my great-grandfather left are two from Georgie Gahan's father regarding Rev. Wood's apparent abandonment of his wife and child. According to the letters, he apparently was a preacher and ministered to my great-grandfather in Thomson, (Bluffville) Illinois, in 1874. A. W. Gahan apparently was responding to correspondence from my great-grandfather regarding a chest of books Edwin Wood left with him and never returned to retrieve. A. W. Gahan told him to keep them for another year and send them to him if Wood never returned. A year later, he wrote a second letter to my great-grandfather asking that the books be sent to him. Included with the correspondence is a photograph of a young woman that I assume to be Georgie Gahan. For some reason I cannot explain, the couple's certificate of marriage dated December 25, 1871, is also included with the correspondence and photograph. Perhaps it was sent as proof of the Gahan's claim to the books. I don't know. It appears to be an original, and certainly not a copy.

If this material is something that pertains to your family and you believe is of importance, I would be willing to discuss sending the material to you. If you know anything about what happened to Georgie Gahan Wood and her daughter, I believe this information might be of more importance to her or her descendants rather than to Edwin Wood's family.

In any case, the material really does not belong with me and I am willing to discuss finding a new home for it with someone who cares and has a family tie.
