Hastings was indeed a village on the Wild River just south of Gilead, in an unorganized township called "Batchelders Grant." What remains of the village lies now within the White Mountain National Forest. Since the township was never organized even as a plantation, vital records were probably never kept prior to 1892. Early marriages of Batchelders Grant residents (what few there were) can sometimes be found in the records of nearby towns, like Gilead and Mason.

If the marriage occurred later than 1892, record of it should be found at the Maine State Archives in Augusta. A first step would be to check their website at the following address to see whether your grandparents' names were indexed.

If you find them, contact me either through this forum or directly by email, and I will check the microfilmed records next week and send you the results.
