Ambrose McKee of the message I am posting to was on Image 2 of 20 for Centre Creek, Jasper County, Missouri 1870 Federal Census as follows:
Ambrose McKee 56 years old, Blacksmith
Catherine McKee 49 years old
living in house is
Alonzo JAMES 24 yrs born TN Farmer (probably a nephew)
Andrew JOHNSTON 8 yrs born MO (possibly a nephew)
Hugh GOAD 22 yrs born TN Farmer
From the records of LARRY JAMES of Neosho, Missouri in a booklet written January 1983 following years of personal research prior to home computers and internet (whose great-great grandmother was Sarah THOMAS JOHNSON also of Neosho) and who was a daughter of AMBROSE MCKEE AND SALLIE BAIN of Rutherford Co TN:
"THE HISTORY OF JASPER COUNTY, MISSOURI". Des Moines, IOWA; Mills & Company, 1883, p. 1058 (Quote:)
AMBROSE MCKEE, retired farmer and owner of mining lands, post office Joplin, was born in Rutherford County, Tenn. His parents, Ambrose and Sallie (Bain) McKee were natives of Scotland........................(End of Quote).......
There is more; however """born in Scotland""" is of interest to me in the following:
I had an email a couple of days ago from a kinsman, Donovan Murphy, however distant matters little when we are speaking of folks descended from the same bloodlines, and he asked if it was possible that our Ambrose McKee who died in 1785 at Mecklenburg Co NC was possibly JAMES MCKEE who is listed in an entry in the book "NORTHERN IRELAND MARRIAGES VOL II" in Saintfield County Down as married to an ELEANOR CREIGHTON in 1742.
In his words "....they are the right age, in the right place, at the right time." Sounds like music to my ears and probably many of our early searchers if they could hear that lead.
We will certainly be looking into trying to make something out of that excellent and very important information.
Any information welcome and appreciated. Linda McKee
