Linda; You were at Burtonwood the same time as we were. We were there from 71 to 75. Small world. I am sure your husband and I are some sort of cousins, too bad we didn't know it then. In those days I was not into genealogy at all. A waste of a great opportunity, too, given that Ireland is so close. On the other hand, that was well before the computer age and the records were much more difficult to review than they are now.
It does seem that genealogists have changed. Now there is a great deal of skimming internet research, which leads to errors building upon other errors. But perhaps I am showing my age.
My McGees came to VA @1750. There were five brothers, John, James, Robert, William and David. David is my ancestor. They left one sister, Jane, behind in Ireland and she married a Mr. Young. So far we do not know from where in Ireland they came, but there is a lot of evidence leading us to believe it was from somewhere within a 50 mile radius of Belfast, which would take in Saintfield. That is why my interest in Thomas McKee, who is the first person to whom my cousin Jerry and I are related who has a known place of birth in Northern Ireland. We are going to Ireland in May, both as tourists and genealogists and are hoping to end our trip to the hometown of the Scots-Irish McGees/McKees.
My FTDNA kit number is 151780.
