I'm grasping at straws in writing. I am grandmother to two young men from a broken home. They have been unable to learn anything about their family heritage because of friction in the families. Joshua is 21 and Elliot is 19. Since I have had success in locating my family lines, they have been pleading with me to try to learn about the area where they came from and then, their family lines. This leads me to my letter to you. I have learned that their great-grandfather was John McGowan, born 1884, married Mary Ellen Kilty, born 1890( I was told that they both were probably born in Ballymote, since Ballymote had so few McGowans and they tended to stay there). John and Mary Ellen married and lived in Balleymote, County Sligo, Ireland. They had five children: Mary K. (born 1912), Anna J. (born 1914), Briget (born 1915), James (born 1915), and Helen (born 1918). ALL THESE BIRTH DATES ARE APPROXIMATE. They emigrated to Manchester, England in 1924, then to America in 1925. I'm praying that you might know their family and would help me find their ancestry for the boys. They believe as I believe, that you don't know yourself until you know from who and where you came. Knowing your ancestry is everything! Sincerely, Virginia Knipper knippe1@hotmail.com |
