Forgot to answer one question for you. "an gaoith" (pronounced "an-ghee") means "the wind" in Irish -- it is likely a name associated with coastal areas of the Northwest of Ireland, where the winds are incessant and very strong. Friends in Northern Scotland have told us, unequivocally, that McGeehin is a Scots name, and I suspect that the McGeehins are in Donegal because they were transplanted there during the resettlements of the 16th century -- Donegal is a short distance from northern Scotland, and would make a likely place to ship unwanted residents. On my next trip to Donegal, I will be pursuing this possibility...
