i always forget to mention stuff in my first post--anyway--i have that Joshua Wilson McCown died in Hillsboro, Hill County, Texas. There is a very large McCown population in Hill County, Texas, and in fact somewhere in that area is a McCown Valley National Park. My mom went to it and said they treated her really nice because she was a McCown. Check into the towns of Whitney, Texas, and Towash, and Hillsboro. (i believe all of these are in Hill County) i don't know why, but i haven't been able to find many records on Joshua Wilson--no census records anyway, so he may have gone by a different name--i've seen a couple of instances where he is referred to as "Wilson". i found a Joshua Wilson McCown born Jul 8, 1830 in Murfreesboro, TN, married to a Susan Turnham on May 9, 1854, and died Jul 18, 1894--is this your ancestor? His marriage and death is listed as being in Milam--i am not sure if that is a county in TN or TX, or the town name. Another idea is to google "Joshua Wilson McCown", with quotation marks and see what comes up--i've surprisingly found a lot of information that way. :) |
