This is a very different origin from that usually quoted for the Mayoh surname i.e. as some derivation from the Christian name Matthew. My branch's oral history says we came from Flanders. As the name in Lancashire is first found around Longworth, Turton, a link to the Flemish weavers who came to Bolton in the mid-14th century seems more likely. I am trying to test the origin of the Mayoh Y DNA - to date I have results from just 2 males. Is there anyone out there called Mayoh with no known "non-paternity" events in their ancestry who would be willing to have a test? Have a look on ancestry where the results are published. They offer a test themselves which my brother has taken.
