In the will of Matthew Clark he mentions his children in the following order. 1. William bp. 1669 2. Samuel bp. 1670 3. James bp. 1672 4. Ruth bp. 1674 5. Mary bp. 1676 6. John bp. 1679 In the history of Chelsea the children of Matthew and Abigail are given as follows: 1. Abigail b. 1656 bp. 1669 2. Elizabeth bp. 1669 3. Sarah bp. 1669 4. Rebecca bp.1669 5. William bp. 1669 As Rebecca marries John Sweatland on 4 Aug 1684 I believe that we can assume that none of these children are born anywhere near the time of their baptisms. We can also concur that the William in the second list is the same as the William in the first. The million dollar question is: Is William the one who is married to Elizabeth Stone dau. of Nathaniel Stone and Remember Corning and is John the one married to Sarah Smith dau. of John Smith and Elizabeth Goodale? This would expalin who the Samuel is that is mentioned in the land transaction of John Clark Jr. to Robert Cleaves in 1729. Any ideas, additions, or corrections? This would answer the question John Insley Coddington couldn't on who the John and William Clark of Beverly were. It would also help tie in the Cornelius Clark bp. 1639 in Boston son of Thomas Clark blacksmith of Chelsea whose name disappears until John Clark of Beverly names his son Cornelius in 1696. That is if Matthew were to be found the son of that mysterious Thomas.
