I continue beating this seemingly dead horse for George Mattingly's parents. This is the George born in Marion County, Ky in 1793, married to Catherine Miles, and died in 1859. Every time I get a little information I will post here in hopes that someone has a lead.
According to an excerpt from A History of Kentucky and Kentuckians by E. Polk Johnson, Lewis Publishing Company. p 1138, George "...was a native of Marion County, Kentucky, and was left an orphan at an early age. He was reared to a practical knowledge of farming and bought a farm near Sayers Depot, in Nelson County."
His being an orphan,if factual, is probably why it is so hard to find his parents. I am hoping to find some death certificates or adoption records. Unfortunately, according to the history of Marion County, Morgan's Raiders burned the clerk's office destroying all records on 5 Jul 1863. I'm hoping I can get the info from another source.
