An update to the John/Francis Maitland mystery.
It turns out that John MAITLAND, b. abt 1815, New Deer, Aberdeen never married Helen INNES, b. bet 1819-1921, Old Machar, Aberdeen. They had a son, John MAITLAND, b. 1840, Old Machar, who married Jane CLERIHEW, 31 Dec 1861, Woodside, Aberdeen (see other posts for more detail about this family).
Additionally, John MAITLAND, b. 1815, married Bathia SCOTT, b. 1818, 31 Dec 1846 in Old Machar. They had twin sons, George and John MAITLAND, b. 11 May 1850 but both died as teenagers.
Parents of John MAITLAND (above) were John MAITLAND, b. 1786, New Deer, Aberdeen (no death found for John) and Ann TAYLOR, b. 1785, d. 1881, both in New Deer, Aberdeen. Confirmed children of John and Ann were:
Elspet b. abt 1822
Jane b. abt 1827
Other children attributed to John and Anne but not confirmed:
Alexander b. 1811, Oyne
Robert b. 1813, Aberdeen
Marjorie b. 1817, Bourtie
Thomas b. 1810, Bourtie
I have traced available information on these 4 and facts seem to conflict with them being children of John and Anne.
Parents of John MAITLAND, b. 1786 were John MAITLAND, b. 1750, Aberdeen and Elspet TAYLOR, b. 1750, Bourtie, Aberdeen. Confirmed offspring of John and Elspet:
George, b. 1780, New Deer, Aberdeen
Peter, b. 1782 New Deer, Aberdeen
George, b. 1786, New Deer, Aberdeen
This is as far back as it goes for now. If you see any connections please post a reply or email me.
