I have recently visited the Geneology site in an effort to begin my search for information about the family name "Madore".
I was under the impression that the Madore's might have originally fished the Grand Banks of Newfoundland as a result of research into Portuguese heritage. I found out that Madore is a Portuguese word for Carpenter and that it is a form of the word Madeira.
Due to the light eyes, dark skin tone and dark hair of most of my immediate relatives, I assumed that a Portuguese connection was obvious. However, I am finding that most of the people who are posting information on-line about their own research are mentioning a french lineage.
My Grandfather's name was Louis Madore and he resided in Minto, NB for most of his life but originally lived in the Pictou, NS area. He was married to Frances Harvey who gave birth to 12 children who also reside in NB, with the exception of one living in Arizona.
I would appreciate any information that you have.
