Since you indicate a probable date and place of birth for James Bell Macfarlane and approximate birthdates and an immigration date for the rest, you probably need to be more specific when you say that you are having no luck from your great grandfather and beyond. What are you specifically still looking for? Here are a few things that I found in a quick look: On the S. S. William Fulton, b. abt 1910 in Johnstone, Scotland James McFarlane Fulton, b. about 1915, Johnstone, Scotland On the 1891 Census for Paisley, Refrewshire, Scotland, Registration district: Johnstone and Elderslie: James McFarlane, Head, age 31, born Paisley, Renfrewshire, Power loom carpet weaver, address: Woodend Place. Agnes McFarlane, Wife,age 33, born Glasgow, Lanarkshire, address: Woodend Place. Barbara R. McFarlane, daughter, age 8, born Elderslie, Renfrewshire,address: Woodend Place, Scholar. Elizabeth B. If I were you, I would go to Scotland's People at http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/ and spend the $12 bucks or so that it would cost to look at the civil registrations (digitized images of original records) for these folks. You can probably find birth certificates for all of them - which nearly always includes parents names. Good hunting.
