I would greatly appreciate any assistance /direction in tracing my g grandparents who were from Clonmel. Unfortunately, I have very little to go on, simply an extract from a marriage reference (in Latin) in 1885 which states (i'll summarise and change the Latin):

30th May 1885 St Mary's Church, Clonmel

Jacobus (James) McCarthy from Clonmel Parents: Joannis/Maria from Limerick)
Margarita (Margaret) Scott from Clonmel Parents: Philippi (Philip) and Joanna Murphy from Clonmel

Witnesses Patritius (Patrick) McCarthy from Clonmel
Anestasia (sic ?) McCarthy from Clonmel

The rest is pure speculation and as such is open for comment/suggestions.

Assuming James (as marrying in 1885) was 21-23 then he would have been born 1860-1865 in Clonmel with John/Mary as parents.Patrick and Anestasia may be his brother and sister (or even sister in law and hence their could be a previous marriage of Patrick and Anestasia prior to 1885)
I have a reference to a Margaret Scott (brn Nov 8 1867 in Marlfield, Tipperary) and it is possible that the McCarthy family were also from that area but, as I say, this is conjecture.
James and Margaret subsequently moved to London and their sons were involved in bringing racehorses from Clonmel to London (family story, probably of minor importance to the tracing but who knows)

Ok , can anyone help please in finding any of the following:

James birth circa 1860/5 and that of Patrick
Philip Scott or Joanna (Murphy) marriage/birth details
John and Mary or Philip and Joanna in the 1881 census?
Patrick and Anestasia McCarthy birth, marriage, census?
Death of John, Mary, Philip, Joanna, Patrick, Anestasia

Not much (if anything to go on) but I would appreciate any feedback

Thanks and regards
