Notes for REBECCA L. BRADFORD:
REBECCA BRADFORD
Rebecca Bradford was born in Polk Co., MO August 26, 1856 and died in Memphis, Texas April 22, 1919. She was married to Alonzo Ingram Nov. 14, 1875. To them were given two children, Mrs. L. R. Davis of Seattle, Washington and Mrs. R. C. Walker of Memphis, Texas, both of whom survive the parents, the father having died fice years ago. Besides the children she leaves three grandchildren, two sisters, two brothers and a large number of other relatives.
Mrs. Ingram was converted at the age of seventeen years and united with the Slagle Creek Baptist Church and was still a member at the time of her death.
One could hardly say too much in praising this good woman. As a neighbor and friend she was one of the best. Always bright and cheerful, and always showing the true neighborly spirit of helpfulness especially in sickness. Christ said, "I was sick and ye visited me, in as much as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my breathern ye have done it unto me." So we are bound to think her reward for this one service to him will be great for many can testify to her faithfulness, and efficiency in caring for the sick.
She was a devoted wife and when Mr. Ingram died and her home was broken up, her heart was broken too, and she had never seemed the same since. She had spent most of her time since his death with her children, making her home principally with Mertie, her youngest. She loved her children and grandchildren dearly and always spoke in the highest praise of her son-in-law which she seemed to love as her own. The last years of her life were full of sickness and pain and though she had the best of medical attention and loving care, it seemed not to be His will that she regain her health. But the comfort in knowing that she was willing and anxious and unafraid to go to meet Him to whom she had long ago given her life. It is certainly a glorious thing for anyone to leave such undisputed evidence of Christianity behind as she had. As long as health permitted she was a faithful attendant at church and Sunday school and a zealous worker; heer prayer and her tears with and for the last that they might come to the Savior she loves so well.
Many will remember too, seeing her when her Soul would be filled to overcoming as with shining Countenance she would sing praise to God.
One song which always seemed to give her a Vision of the glories of Heaven was, "We will All Shout Together in That Morning". How precious the thought. That the vision she then had is now lost in blessed Equality and that beautiful is now hers forever and Foreever.
Her funeral sermon was preached in her church Home by her former pastor Rev. J. V. Sherman.
Her body was then laid to rest by the side of her husband in Slagle Cemetery. This who knew and loved her.
