Just to say that I am in the early stages of Family Tree tracing in Britain. My understanding of the Lusks is that they originally came from Ireland and are probably descended from the Vikings who plundered the Irish coast during their invasion.
However... so far I have traced back to the Lusks on Islay ( an island off the coast of Scotland) in the early 1800s. but prior to that I believe the Lusks came from Antrim in Northern Ireland.

Clearly some of the Lusks branched off and went to the new world earlier than that.

Your entry is fascinating in that the Lusk you mention is John Smith Lusk. Now,during my tracing through Scotland there were several John Lusks. John became the significant Lusk in Scotland as I searched back. However, there is one point where a Catherine Smith had a child called John , but the child was registered as Lusk, and it would appear that this woman may have reverted to her maiden name of Lusk when the baby was born... so we don't know what happened to the husband called Smith.

I am not 100% sure of my facts and there may be no immediate connection with your John Smith Lusk. But it would stilll be something of a coincidence. What do you think?
