My maternal grandmother, Helen Lounsbury, wife of Lawrence A. Kennedy of Flushing, Queens County, NY, died in the Flu epidemic of 1918 when my mother was 10 months old.
In a photo of my grandmother holding my mother is also her grandfather, whom I believe to be James V. Lounsbury. (My gg grandfather)
He is shown wearing, I've been told, a Phi Beta Kappa keychain, and he also has a medal on his chest, which I believe, is a Bronze Star awarded him in the Civil War.
James V. Lounsbury first served as a Private with the 12th NY Infantry, Company 1 of Elmira, NY. He entered his second enlistment as a Quarter Master Sergeant with the 15th NY Calvary, Company F of Syracuse, NY. He ended his service as a Sergeant Major.
My grandmother had a brother whose name was, I believe, James and he worked for a publisher of religious materials in NYC. I do not know if he ever married.
My grandmother's mother's name was also Helen and was married to was James E. Lounsbury, believed to be from Boston, Mass.
If anyone has any information on James V. Lounsbury from the Elmira, or Syracuse, NY area, or James E. Lounsbury, who I believe is James V's son, Please contact me. I have no other info on this part of my family line.
Thank you. Jim (James A. Travers, III)
