According to the record of deeds for the Wick House that is now part of Jockey Hollow...George H. Loree bought the Wick House from the heirs of William Tuttle. Not certain which William this was, as the property had been willed previously to Mary Tuttle by her grandmother, Mary Cooper Wick, widow of Henry Wick. There were two granddaughters named Mary Tuttle, one the daughter of Tempe Wick and William Tuttle (Mary Cooper Tuttle, b. abt. 1780, who married Joseph Warren Blachly)and the other the daughter of Tempe's brother Henry and Elizabeth Cooper(Mary Wick, b. 1766, who married Barnabus Tuttle). George H. Loree bought the property from the heirs about 1841 (possibly 6/23/1841) and sold it to Israel Crane (4/1/1872). Strangely, George bought it back from Israel Crane (5/3/1887) and sold it to Anna Nichol (4/10/1914). I have a similar interest in that house, as my great-grandmother lived there (sometime between 1862-1882, her birth and marriage years) and another ancestor was born there in 1902. My ancestors were Mary Catherine Penn Brown, and her brother, Joseph Penn. Mary was widowed during the Civil War and lived there with her small daughter, Caroline Amelia Brown. Mary's brother was Joseph Penn. |
